Canada Imposes Rs 80 Lakh Penalty on Infosys for underpayment of tax

Canadian Government imposed Penalty on Indian Multinational information technology company Infosys Ltd.  




As per the Report of Business Standard The Canadian government has fined the company,  approximately Rs 82 lakh for allegedly failing to fulfil the complete employee health tax obligation for the financial year ending December 31, 2020.


If we translate  the fine in Canadian dollar, it will be, $134,000, 


Infosys has indicated that recent fines will not substantially impact its financial health, operations, or obligations. 

Similarly in January, the company was fined $225 by the US taxation authority for the alleged underpayment of modified business tax over two quarters, referring to payments made below the invoiced amount. Similarly, in August, the Florida Department of Revenue imposed a $76.92 penalty for another tax payment shortfall. October saw the Commonwealth of Massachusetts levying a $1,101.96 fine on Infosys for non-compliance with family and medical leave return filings for the first two quarters of 2023. Additionally, in September, the assistant commissioner of the commercial taxes department in Chennai's Kelambakkam assessment circle issued a demand notice for Rs 26.5 lakh, citing deficiencies in integrated goods and services tax (IGST) payments, inclusive of penalties and interest.
